The Best Advice
If you follow my Tweets or my Facebook, you’ll notice that I am a member of the Entrepreneur Society at Cal State Fullerton. I joined the club last semester (Fall 09), because they offer the chance to meet, up close and personal, individuals who have made it (you know, millionaires, the select few making 15-20k a month.) I enjoyed the meetings and speakers so much last semester that I took up a board position this semester, and am currently the VP of Marketing, which is awesome, but that’s not what this post is about. We recently had some guest speakers who truly stood out to me, above any that I have experienced with my short time in the club.
Mike has been in the fitness and wellness industry for the past 8 years. After spending the time in the 9-5 world, working as a Fitness Director in the LA fitness chain, he realized that it was not longer for him, and he had an epiphany. He realized, that with a little risk (okay a lot), he could take is $50-$100 comission per fitness contract, and turn it to thousands. In 2006 he started First Step Fitness, and made six figures his first year, SIX FIGURES. By building a solid business plan, and focusing on personal training, nutritional expertise, and physical therapy, he was able to tell his clients what he was worth, and they were willing to pay. Mike delivered a message, one that I have seen elsewhere on the net but that escapes me now, Don’t let anyone tell you what you are worth, sell to them what you know you are worth. As a budding entrepreneur I really took this to heart, so thanks for that Mike.
Two representatives came to us from Quattro. Quattro is a business program, aimed at pushing small business owners to make the most of everything they do, by focusing on 4 core concepts:
- Wealth
- Wellness
- Leadership
- Legacy
Quattro’s take on leadership quite literally blew my mind. In the words of Cheri Tree “To become a great leader, you have to become a great follower.” A lot of the people in the club were confuse by this statement, but it made sense to me, “If you want to be the best, learn from the best.” This is probably the most influential thing I have heard this year, and I’m stoked on it, because it is EXACTLY what I am doing now. I am following all of the most influential leaders in my field. Cheri’s concept of leadership works like this:
Become a Follower of Leaders –> Transition to a Leader of Followers –> to become a LEADER of Leaders
So right now I am a follower, I influence almost no one, and am influenced by EVERYONE. The everyone that I choose to be influenced by, is what matters at this time in my life, and I have chosen to be influenced by only the best and brightest in my field. I have chosen to apply the concepts that leaders have proven to work. I have started down the path to becoming successful in whatever I choose to do. Eventually I will become a Leader, it might be tomorrow, it might be 5 years from now, but it will happen, and I feel that when it does I will have truly unlocked my potential.
Its speakers like these, who come to ES meetings, share their knowledge, and make school worth it to me. Not only worth it, but exciting. So a big shout out to them, THANKS FOR COMING OUT!
