This Week at School
I suck at keeping up with my “This week in…” posts (or any of my regular posts for that matter), so we’ll see how this one goes. My semester started again at CSUF, and I’m doing the Monday Wednesday thing, so hopefully every Wednesday or Thursday I’ll throw a post up here about what I learned. Scribe says I need a link here, hopefully you enjoy this entrepreneur music video.
Marketing 353 – Marketing Information Technology
Muahahaha. I have access to millions of databases, and I can now contact almost anyone anywhere. Hopefully I use this new tool for good, but who knows…
Seriously though, this class is about how to use all the tools that are available to professional marketers. Is it fun, not really. But the professor, Ray Benedicktus, is awesome.
Marketing 370 – Buyer Behavior
Professor Steven Chen, most ridiculous professor ever. He knows and had Anderson Cooper, Christina Aguilera, and others come in and personally endorse him last night. Alright, not really, but he did have some funny video. His teaching style is a mix of work and play (we made paper airplanes last night). I’m still not quite positive on what this class is all about, but with Professor Chen as the captain, I know its going to be a party boat.
Marketing 379 – Marketing Research
Similar to the Marketing Information Technology class, this is about performing research. Gathering, sharing, and using it effectively. This is again with Ray Benedicktus, who runs a Strategic Marketing Firm here in OC, so I’m in good hands I think. I think they have a blog there too, but I can’t find it (he’s in the middle of a site redesign).
We also get to learn fun facts that come from market research, like why hot-dog buns come in packs of 8 and why a kleenex box has about 60 tissues. If you know the answer, you should leave it in the comments.
Marketing 455 – Strategic Internet Marketing
Social media? Starting an online business? Hells yeah! This class is for me what its all about, internet marketing. Professor Stuart Atkins is amped and excited about teaching the course for the first time, and he sounds like he knows his stuff. He’s also a real world marketer, doing small business marketing. He’s also got a blog, that I haven’t seen yet, but here is the link anyway. Oh and he wrote a book, buy it here. I’m waitlisted #1 for this class, and I really hope I get in!
I’ve got another class as well, Management 340 – Organizational Behavior, but so far its not fun enough to write about.
I’m also doing a ton outside of the classroom:
Entrepreneur Fraternity – Epsilon Nu Tau
I am president and CEO of this new club that we are bringing to campus. We are Co-Ed, and dedicated to advancing the art and science of Entrepreneurship, Salesmanship, Professionalism, and more. We’re new, but looking to do it big this semester. If you’re reading this and want to help or join, let me know in the comments.
American Marketing Association
Just joined this semester, and already got a job. I’ll be serving as club liaison to the other business clubs on campus. Don’t know exactly how its going to work, or how much time it will take, but it should be awesome. I figure its something I was going to do anyway for ENT, so why not do it for AMA as well.
Entrepreneur Society
ES was a club I was in last semester, where I served on the board as Marketing Director. Obviously I can’t serve the club like I did last year, but we do plan on working together to help entrepreneurship flourish on campus.
